A South African Police Services (SAPS) officer and 4 others were killed in an apparent road rage incident on the M1 south.
On Monday, 23 October, between Corlett Drive and Atholl-Oaklands Road a SAPS vehicle which had prisoners in transit collided head on with a Ford Ranger bakkie.
The prisoners were being transported from court, at the time of the fatal collision in which multiple injuries were reported.
In a statement from SAPS, the driver of the Ford Ranger had allegedly lost control off his vehicle after an apparent road rage exchange with the driver of a Mini Cooper.
The M1 highway was completely closed off to traffic until the accident scene was cleared.
An investigation is underway, and more details will be made available as per SAPS’ statement.
Unfortunately, all 5 victims were declared dead on scene.
