The Office of the Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that one of the council’s blue-light convoy vehicles was involved in a tragic multi-vehicle pileup that claimed 1 life.
On Monday, 23 October, a collision involving 4 vehicles, one of which was a motorcycle occured on the R21 South, just before the Pomona Road off-ramp.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance, Cllr Nkulueko Dunga was traveling in one of the council’s vehicles at the time.
Cllr Dunga reportedly sustained serious injuries in the collision which happened at approximately 19h00.
“The collision involved four vehicles, one of which belonged to council.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance, Cllr Nkululeko Dunga, was seated in one of the vehicles and sustained serious injuries.
The rapid response from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department Freeway Unit ensured that all crucial accident protocols and emergency procedures were meticulously and promptly administered.
We are saddened to confirm that this unfortunate incident resulted in several injuries and a tragic loss of life.”
The South African Police Services are currently investigating the circumstances of the collision, and further details will be communicated by the relevant authorities.
All injured parties have been transported to hospital where they are receiving the necessary medical attention.
