It’s been a year and a half since esteemed South African singer Lira suffered a stroke. The musician recently took to social media to reflect on the challenging path she is currently on and the unbelievable progress she’s made.
“I’m so proud of myself,” expressed Lira. “It’s been a year and six months since I had the stroke. The German doctors told me it would take this long for me to speak; not only am I speaking, I’m reading and writing.”
Since then, Lira has done interviews, sung in front of audiences, and graced magazine covers. Despite her progress, she points out that “recovering from Aphasia takes time and patience”, and she doesn’t want to put herself under “any sort of pressure.”
“A few things overwhelm me, but I’m getting stronger. I’ve been fascinated by my whole journey and how my mind works. It’s a privilege and a blessing to be alive to learn how to speak, read, and write.”
Additionally, Lira encourages her fans to help her practice her speech. “It’s still early stages, but every bit of practice helps me.”
In closing, Lira expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of “support, encouragement, and love.”
“I love you so much. Thank you for believing in me. But all this wouldn’t happen if I didn’t believe in myself. I want to thank the Most High for giving me another chance at life.”
