Hilton Pretorius, the Klerksdorp brawl victim who was hospitalised after being violently attacked in a parking lot earlier this month has died.
The 32-year old father was allegedly assaulted by Wernich Botha, whose girlfriend was reportedly cheating on him with Pretorius, who was her ex.
Botha, who is accused of assaulting Pretorius and another man in the brawl, will now be facing a murder charge.
He was initially charged with attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and was released on R2 000 bail on 07 September.
Pretorius, who suffered severe injuries to his brain, died on Wednesday, 20 September, and his family say he never regained consciousness after the assault.
The assault which was caught on video, shows Pretorius laying motionless in a pool of his own blood.
Botha’s alleged second victim, PW Roos who was also knocked unconscious, suffered a concussion and injuries to his shoulder.
North West Police Spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh confirmed Hilton Pretorius’ death in hospital on Wednesday morning.
Pretorius’ family says the young father, was left with bleeding on the brain and was in the ICU since the assault.
The family has started a Back A Buddy funding page to raise money for Hilton Pretorius’ exorbitant hospital bills.
A R500 000 target has been set to cover Pretorius’ medical and legal bills.
