DJ Sbu is encouraging others to show off their dreadlocks, amid the Crowthorne Christian Academy discrimination saga.
Sharing a video of his beautiful crown, which he wears with pride, the podcaster and businessman, made a firm statement by using the hashtag, “hands off my dreadlocks.”
This after a 12-year old learner from Crowthorne Christian Academy was dragged out of the school and banned for refusing to cut her dreadlocks, which is her natural hair.
Videos of Tylin Gcabashe being manhandled by the Principal’s husband sparked an outcry on social media on Monday, 14 August.
Tylin’s parents were told their daughter will not return back to the school despite her fees allegedly being paid for, because she broke the school’s code of conduct.
On Wednesday, 16 August, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) staged a protest outside the school for discriminatory action against Tylin because of her natural hair.
In support of Tylin, DJ Sbu sent the firm message, “My dreadlocks are beautiful. Your hair is your crown. Wear it with pride.”

Andries Hendrik Booysen, was arrested on Wednesday, after Tylin’s family opened a case of common assault against him.
The 51-year old appeared at the Midrand Magistrates Court on Thursday, 17 August, where he was released on bail of R2 000.
Crowthorne Christian Academy has since shut its doors after the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) said the school was operating illegally.
GDE spokesperson, Steve Mabona says the department is working to place learners at alternative schools.
“It must be noted the school is operating illegally, and the pupil was offered alternative schooling and counselling by the GDE.
We are assisting the school to comply and encourage all unregistered institutions to engage with the department for assistance with the registration process.”
