South African actress Thuso Mbedu said the Miss SA pageant is still relevant today because women are “all purpose” for different things.
“We each have different desires, different talents, and what South Africa is doing right now, is just changing the system, the playground (if you will).
The pageant is open to anyone, as long as it’s in your heart and you want to work towards it, why not you?”
Thuso Mbedu will be looking for that blend between natural talent and work ethic among the finalists when making her decision.
The stage is set for the Miss South Africa finale on Sunday, 13 August, with seven finalists vying for the coveted crown.
Taking place at the SunBet Arena, in Pretoria, the finale will be hosted by Bonang Matheba, who returns to the stage after last hosting the event in 2019.
Judges at this year’s Miss SA include, Leandie du Randt, Thuso Mbedu, Devi Sankaree Govender, and Jo-Ann Strauss.
Reigning Miss Universe, R’Bonney Nola Gabriel will also be judged.
The seven finalists competing for the crown are:
- Anke Rothmann
- Natasha Joubert
- Bryoni Govender
- Homba Mazaleni
- Melissa Nayimuli
- Nande Mabala
- Jordan van der Vyver
