“O bolela masepa!”
Julius Malema responds to Elon Musk
Julius Malema didn’t hold back his opinion with regards to Elon Musk’s views on his party chanting the controversial Dubul’ibhunu song, telling the South African-born billionaire in no uncertain terms, that he’s “talking s**t.”
The Tesla business magnate accused Malema of “openly pushing for genocide of white people in South Africa”, and reached out to Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene.
Musk commented on a tweet by Benny Johnson, who says the EFF’s song is similar to the race wars plaguing America.
To which Malema responded, “O bolela masepa,” which translates to “You’re talking s**t.”
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader chanted “Kill the boer” at the party’s 10th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, 29 July.
Standing before a packed FNB Stadium, Malema who previously said that the lyrics to his party’s Dubul’ibhunu song says ‘shoot to kill, kiss the boer, kiss the farmer,’ can be heard singing, “shoot to kill, kill the boer, the farmer.”
Malema then mimics the sound of gunshots, and his actions have led the Democratic Alliance (DA) to file charges against the EFF leader.
Amongst the charges the DA will be bringing forward against Malema are:
- Charges against Malema and the ANC government at the United Nations,
- Filing an ethics complaint with Parliament,
- Obtaining legal advice on approaching the public protector and the courts

In 2020, Afriforum lodged a complaint against the EFF, calling for the song to be ruled as hate speech, for the EFF to apologise and be fined R500 000.
Malema explained that neither he nor his party members sang shoot the boer, they did say shoot to kill.
He went on to say what they meant was to shoot anyone who stands in the way of the people and their freedom.
