Only in South Africa will someone try to get a leopard to leave, by gesturing the animal away with a hand clap.
A viral video of a game ranger encountering the wild cat that wandered into a lodge has South Africans in stitches, with many noting that the ranger’s actions is “the most South African way of dealing with things.”
The unarmed ranger’s attempts to get the leopard to leave included yelling, ‘Hey!’, at it as it run around the lodge.
Comments on the video which was shared by Juan Slabbert show South African’s keen sense of humour, with some saying the only thing missing with the hand clap, is a ‘voetsek.’
Which is a South African slang for get out or leave.
Handling the situation like the dangerous animal was a stray cat, the ranger showed no sign of fear as she gestured to the leopard, and got back into his vehicle.
“Tell him voetsek, he’ll go. He’s South African. Speak to him in the language he understands.”
“Guys, what’s missing with that hand clap?”
“That’s what happens when you remove the poor thing from the R200 notes. Now, look at it, the leopard is just running around because it doesn’t know what to do!”
“That hand clap is the most South African thing we do.”
“Proof South Africans are not scared of anything.”
“Only in South Africa!”
The video has since been viewed 1.5 million times and has been shared by hundreds.
