Just in, Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema, 35, has officially left the Spanish outfit to join Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad.
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Benzema has “signed main part of docs to become new Al Ittihad player.”
It is understood that the contract will be valid until 2025 but will also include an option for an additional season
Benzema will join his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo who joined the Pro League’s Al Nassr in December 2022 on a two-year deal. This made Ronaldo the highest-paid player in the world, earning R2 billion per season.
The 35-year-old’s salary has not been revealed yet, however, reports coming out of Spain suggest that he will pocket around R2 billion per season.
Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009 from Olympique Lyon for R680 million. He went on to become the club’s second-leading goal scorer with 354 goals. During his time in Madrid, he won five Champions League titles and a Ballon d’Or.
