A trail of killings. One beneficiary.
Showmax will be releasing a true-crime documentary series, Rosemary’s Hitlist, about South African cop-turned-serial-killer, Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu.
Rosemary’s Hitlist will feature as a Showmax Original on 14 June, bringing the spine-chilling story of how Rosemary orchestrated the murders of several of her family members and stood to benefit from their funeral and life insurance policies.
It all started on 12 October 2015 when Rosemary’s live-in lover, Yingwani Maurice Mabasa, the father of her only surviving child at the time went missing.
Mabasa’s body was found with 76 stab wounds, 3-days later in Olifantsfontein. Rosemary benefitted from all 16 of Mabasa’s life insurance policies totalling R400 000.
But Rosemary was just getting started, and in July 2021, the cop-turned killer was on trial for the murders of five of her family members, including her sister, two nephews, a niece and a cousin.
Rosemary would stand to benefit from over R1.4 million worth of insurance and funeral policies.
Handing down the judgment, Judge Ramarumo Monama compared Ndlovu to the 1932 murder case of Daisy de Melker, saying South Africa hadn’t seen anything else similar in the last 89 years.
Ndlovu was also sentenced to an additional 30 years: 10 years each for fraud, incitement to commit murder, and the attempted murder of her mother, Maria Mushwana, her sister Joyce, and Joyce’s five children.
Rosemary’s Hitlist is a 4-part documentary that explores the convicted murderer’s childhood and her journey to becoming a police officer.
Rosemary Ndlovu was back in court in February facing new charges, that she and another co-accused ex-cop Nomsa Mudau conspired to murder Mudau’s ex-husband. Both women pleaded not guilty to those charges.
The docu-series will premiere on 14 June on Showmax with new episodes on Thursdays.
