South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha was one of the key speakers at Mpoomy Ledwaba‘s Wisom & Wellness conference.
In her talk, Nomzamo Mbatha highlighted how ‘visibility and courage’ soared her into a global success.
Growing up in KwaMashu and seeing Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe drive up to visit his mother allowed Nomzamo to dream big.
“It starts with visibility. It’s important to be a tangible representation of a dream realized,” she shared.
“I saw it through Siyabonga Nomvete. He grew up in Kwa-Mashu. That man was one of the people whom I’d see in the township driving to his mom and I knew I could do that for myself and my mother on the day. That’s why I continue to be visible in the township.”
Mbatha adds that it is about, “pushing beyond self and having courage.”
The Coming 2 America actress admits that at times she was paralyzed by fear of the unknown, however, she took a leap of faith.
“Sometimes I’m too afraid but we jump. I remember the first year of Isibaya and suddenly things are happening for me and people are calling me the new IT girl,” she told the audience.
“Part of that was me so not afraid to leave the Titanic when the music was still playing. I don’t leave the Titanic when it is sinking. Leap into the next.”
The actress recalls, “saying goodbye to Isibaya after 12 months with no promise of anything,” but she told herself that “whether we crash or we soar, I am going to take this leap of faith.”
She notes that not everyone will “understand” your vision but only you know what’s inside.
“They don’t understand because you are not living inside this vessel. What is occupying this vessel is something that is encouraged by the higher intelligence that walks with it,” said Nomzamo Mbatha.
