Eskom has warned the public against theft and vandalism of its infrastructure.
The power utility says the theft and vandalism of its infrastructure increases the risk of power supply interruptions.
CEO Andre de Ruyter says this is why they are working closely with law enforcement to bring perpetrators to book.
He says the power utility spends about R2-billion annually replacing stolen cables.
De Ruyter has commended the work done by police so far to clamp down on the crime.
In 2018, R5-million worth of stolen Eskom infrastructure, including aluminium and copper cables, were recovered in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg.

Reporting cable theft
Cable theft is a serious crime. Illegal electricity connections expose the community to the risks of electrocution and, in most cases, cables that are used have not been insulated or covered and are exposed cables. If you come across any illegal connections, you can call Eskom on 08600 37566 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
