Mxolisi Dukwana has officially been elected as the premier of the Free State.
Mxolisi Dukwana replaces Sisi Ntombela who resigned this week after being recalled by the African National Congress (ANC) in the province.
Just a few weeks after being chosen as chair of the conference that elected Dukwana, she was summoned back by the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC).
Dukwana was sworn in as premier on Friday.

The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Roy Jankielsohn, who only got seven votes out of the 20 seats in the provincial assembly, lost to Dikwana.
Dikwana held the position of Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the Free State Executive Council prior to his election.
He was chosen to serve as the convener or acting head of the African National Congress (ANC) branch in the Free State in May 2021.
In January 2023, he was chosen to serve as the party’s provincial chairperson.
