Renowned Spanish defender Sergio Ramos announces his retirement from international football following a fallout with the current coach of Spain.
Announcing his retirement, 36-year-old Ramos revealed that his decision comes after current head coach Luis de la Fuente informed him that “he will not be part of his plans” regardless of how good he performs.
Luis’s words come as a shock to Ramos who served his country for almost 20 years, featuring in over 180 games and winning a World cup and two Euro Championships in that period.
“I honestly believe that this journey deserved to end at my own choosing or because my performances were not at a level worthy of our national team.”
Ramos takes away the great memories and titles won with his national team.
“I come away with unforgettable memories, all the titles we’ve fought for and celebrated together and the tremendous pride I feel as the most capped Spanish international of all time. This badge, this shirt, and these fans, all of you, have made me happy.”
The center-back currently plows his trade in France for Qatari-owned club PSG with the likes of Messi and Mbappe. His contract ends at the end of this season.
