North West provincial Environment and Conversation Department has confirmed the escaped lioness has been shot and killed by a farmer.
The lioness escaped on Thursday, 23 February whilst being moved from one game farm to another.
According to reports, the lioness escaped from a container on the back of a bakkie from Stella en-route to Tlakgameng.
Search teams were still trying to locate the wild cat on Friday morning.
However, a local farmer who spotted the lioness near his premises decided to shoot the animal before the owner arrived.
Because the lioness was closing in on residential areas, the call was made to shoot and kill the predator.
Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism spokesperson, Jerry Matebesi said the risks were too high to not act swiftly.
Last month a tiger was shot and killed in Walkerville after escaping from its domestic enclosure.
Sheba the tiger had attacked a 37-year old man, killing his dog and a pig before she was put down.
