The sit-in started last week. Sibongile Mngoma has been at the forefront of the fight.
READ: SA artists demand answers from President Cyril Ramaphosa over funding
The artists are calling for an intervention by the President to disclose what happened to the millions allocated to the arts department to help struggling artists whose jobs were affected by the coronavirus.
Many claim that they have never received a cent from the fund.
National Treasury allocated R300-million to the artists.
The protesting artists say it’s not clear where the money has gone.
Opera singer Mngoma says they will not leave until they have answers.
“Where is the money?” asks Mngoma.
She says there are rumours that some people received payouts of millions.
“What are these rumours of people being paid R9-million? What are these rumours of people being paid R11-million? What are these rumours of people being paid R19-million when artists budgets are being cut by 70%?”
The artists say only President Cyril Ramaphosa can get answers over what happened to the money. The money was meant for the Presidential Employment Stimulus Packages.
