Bacardi pioneer Vusi Ma R5‘s record label has voiced its concern over artists stealing their work without giving due credit or going through the proper channels.
Vusi Ma R5, real name Itumeleng Mosoeu was gunned down outside a tavern in Soshanguve, Pretoria North where he was booked to perform.
The late musician’s record label, Tribal Records, and his team have tasked themselves with ensuring that the late musician’s work and the Bacardi genre as a whole are protected.
It came to their attention that a certain group of artists has been using the works of Barcadi musians without giving them due credit.
“Tribal Records and The Bacardi Music Association (BMA) will no longer tolerate this kind of behavior.”
“As a community, we’ve been silent for a very long time and we are tired of the insults and disrespect shown to the genre.”
Anyone who wishes to sample or collaborate is encouraged to go through the right channels.
“We encourage anyone who wishes to sample or collaborate with any artists related to Tribal Records and/or The Bacardi Music Association (BMA) to reach out. To our fans, we would like to thank you for the love and support you’ve been showing us, because of you we will continue to grow and protect Bacardi music.”
