President Cyril Ramaphosa says the ANC’s Lekgotla resolved to declare the country’s energy crisis a National State of Disaster.
Ramaphosa said work was underway in the government to determine whether the conditions for the declaration of the state of disaster might be met when he spoke on the penultimate day of the ANC lekgotla on Monday.

He added that the potential declaration would be discussed in the cabinet lekgotla on Wednesday.
“This lekgotla has provided clear direction on what needs to be done to end the energy crisis as a matter of extreme urgency and to establish a firm foundation for energy security and sustainability into the future,” Ramaphosa explains.
“It was observed that it would be necessary to have a national disaster because that would enable us to have the instruments that would be necessary to fully address the challenge that our nation faces,”
Work is already underway within government to establish whether the legal requirements for the declaration of a national state of disaster are met and what specific actions we would be empowered to undertake to urgently resolve #loadshedding.https://t.co/9b3Mqplv8E
