Miss SA Ndavi Nokeri is embarking on a journey to redefine and reclaim notions of body positivity with her Miss Universe Cape design.
Named “Perfectly Imperfect”, Ndavi’s cape which was revealed during the swimsuit competition on Wednesday 11 January, was designed to inspire, redefine and reclaim narratives around beauty and body positivity.
With this, Ndavi has amplified the voices of women in South Africa by creating a campaign that has included women of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities to share stories about their bodies and in turn redefining the narrative of what body positivity is.
“We went out and asked women of all ages with different backgrounds and ethnicity to share their story about their body so that we can shift the narrative and amplify their voices”, Ndavi shared to her Instagram.
The message behind this campaign stems from the fact that we are all “uniquely imperfect”.
“Our message is that women are all beautiful in their own uniquely imperfect way. Ndavi Nokeri will be standing on the stage with other women coming from different parts of the world – different shapes, different sizes, different skin tones. The one thing that truly makes us beautiful is our shared womanhood, our cellulite, our stretch marks, our scars, our curves, our different sized breasts, our different hair and our voices”, the Miss SA organisation shared.
In continuation: “With this cape we aim to inspire a movement of perfectly imperfect women with powerful voices to step into the light”.
