Nersa approves 18.65% Eskom tariff increase.
An increase in power rates of 18.65% has been approved by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa), and will take effect on April 1 of this year.
Eskom requested a 32% rate rise over the April 2023–April 2024 period.
Eskom was driven to conduct Stage 6 load shedding continuously this week as a result of increased diesel prices. In the fiscal year 2021/22, the utility spent R15 billion on diesel, which is around R9 billion more than Nersa would have permitted it to recoup through power pricing.
