City of Johannesburg mayor, Mpho Phalatse’s hush hush wedding to ActionSA member, Brutus Malada over the weekend has caused quite a stir on the social streets.
To make matters worse, a woman who claims to be the customary wife of Malada came forward to say she was shocked to find that he had gotten married whilst they are still married.
As a result the office of the mayor issued a statement regarding Phalatse’s wedding to Malada saying the private occasion between the happy couple will culminate in a public ceremony soon.
According to DA Chairperson, Helen Zille, Phalatse and Malada didn’t tie the knot but rather had a pastoral blessing ceremony.
Did the mayor feel pressured to clarify that she’s not married to Brutus Malada to avoid public backlash for marrying a married man?
In a statement, the office of the mayor clarified, “Over the weekend Dr Mpho Phalatse and Mr Brutus Malada held a private matrimonial ceremony in Venda, presided over by Pastor Lufuno Nemovhola. The soulmates are happy to begin a new life and grow old together.
The date for a public ceremony will be announced soon.
It is unfortunate that pictures of this private occasion were leaked on social media. Given that this was and remains a private matter, no further comment will be provided by Executive Mayor Phalatse, the Office of the Executive Mayor or Mr Malada.
We wish them a prosperous and successful marriage.”
