Ntaka Tshifaro claims that Mpho Phalatse’s new husband is her fiancé who paid lobola for her last year and yet he married the City of Joburg Mayor over the weekend.
Brutus Malada, a member of ActionSA, had reportedly been living with Tshifaro after he confirmed their union in the customary way of paying lobola for her.
But, Malada denied being traditionally married to Tshifaro, telling the Sowetan Live that he had only given his ex’s family R5000 for ivula mlomo. Which is basically a meet-and-greet between the couple’s families.
Tshifaro disputes this, saying that they met in 2020 at a wedding and immediately started living together as man and wife.
She told the publication she was shocked when she found out on social media that her fiancé had married another woman.
“Brutus paid lobola to my parents and uncles and he should have taken me back to my parents if the marriage was no longer working. When I received the photos on Saturday, I was shocked but it provided answers to a lot that was happening to our marriage since the beginning of the year.”

Tshifaro shares that things between her and Malada were not going well and she left their home because she suspected there was another woman in the picture.
In December 2021, Malada and Tshifaro moved to Sandton from Bronkhorspruit after he found a position at the City of Joburg.
Tshifaro says she moved out of their home in August 2022, after they both agreed their marriage was not working.
Within 3-months, Malada had married Phalatse which leads Tshifaro to believe she was always in the picture.
“We had our disagreements but I never thought he had given up on this marriage. I never suspected even when he said he was having meetings with Mpho that there was something going on between them. With the pictures of Mpho and Brutus surfacing, what should I say to my parents? I respected that woman and am disappointed.
I still love Brutus but I feel he should have handled things differently. There is nothing wrong about growing out of love. They both disrespected my family and me when they decided to get married without doing things the right way.”
