Starting his day on 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka is Black Motion member MÖRDA.
MÖRDA has just dropped his first solo project Asante, named after his daughter.
Speaking about the decision to change his name from Murdah Bongz to MÖRDA, the producer says he wanted a name that could appeal to his fan base across the globe.
“I also have an audience overseas so I wanted something that they can relate to – so I used “Murder” in Dutch.”
MÖRDA says he went solo because he wanted to “try out other opportunities”, however, his heart is still with Black Motion.
“My heart is still Black Motion. I love Black Motion and I’m a member. I wanted to try something because I felt like we had reached the ceiling. It started to feel like we were sounding the same. I wanted to try out other opportunities.”
About two weeks ago, Black Motion conducted an interview ahead of a festival they were booked for, and what was rather strange was that a new member, Kabelo Koma, was there instead of Murdah Bongz (MÖRDA) fuelling speculations that the legendary duo had split.
MÖRDA spoke about this for the first time on 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka on Wednesday morning. He says he was “hurt” by this and was surprised like the rest of us.
“I just found out on social media but I am meeting them tomorrow. Me, I was hurt but I still smile about it. I was busy travelling but I am meeting the guys.
I” ‘m not on Twitter so I’m seeing screenshots. However, tomorrow we are meeting.”
MÖRDA revealed that he and Thabo Smol are on good terms and are still working together behind the scenes.
