Talks of reviving the hit 1998 original series, Sex and the City have been swirling around for a while now. With two popular spin-off movies in 2008 and 2010 and a 6-year series run until 2004 the reboot, which will stream on HBO Max, will need a diverse cast if it is to hit record numbers again.
Gaining momentum in the late 90s was easy for the show’s writers. With fewer viewing options at the time, women were keen to live vicariously through Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her cosmopolitan-sipping friends. A call for stronger female roles and an end in gender stereotypes on shows and films means the characters will need to be written with a more balanced view.

That said, Jennifer Hudson is eager to bring Louise from St. Louis back to the New York City show. The 39-year-old Oscar winner portrayed Carrie Bradshaw’s sassy assistant in the 2008 film. While details of the cast, plot, and episodes have not been released but, word on the street is that actress Kim Cattrall who played the effervescent Samantha Jones has made it clear she will never return to the franchise.
Hudson, much-loved for her music career, is equally liked in her role as Louise. She garnered support in her acting endeavours, and fans are equally awaiting her biopic on Aretha Franklin, Respect. The film’s release has moved to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
