A motion of no confidence has now been put out against Tania Campbell, the mayor of Ekurhuleni, just weeks after the African National Congress (ANC) seized control of the City of Johannesburg.
She is set to face a motion of no confidence on 26 October 2022.
Through a minority administration, the Democratic Alliance (DA) and its coalition allies are in charge.
Khehla Mdlala of the ANC raises concerns in the resolution he has filed concerning the mayoral committee’s delayed appointment and Campbell’s handling of the Tembisa demonstrations against energy rate increases.
He further claims that while she was mayor, she neglected the townships in the area.

After sporadic protests in Tembisa earlier this year, the Executive Mayor was put to the test.
During the protests, the community witnessed traffic blocks and violence. Four people died as a result of this, including two who allegedly died while attempting to bomb an ATM.
High billing queries, bad assistance from customer care center workers, and reported pricing disparities between different townships in the City of Ekurhuleni are some of the points that the community brought up in their memorandum.
Many Ekurhuleni locals disliked Campbell after she replaced Mzwandile Masina of the ANC and ceased providing them with 100 free basic electricity units.
