City of Joburg Executive Mayor, Mpho Phalatse is pleading with residents to keep her in office following mounting pressure for her to resign.
With newly appointed speaker Colleen Makhubele tabling a motion of no confidence in Phalatse, the mayor is desperate to see out her full term in office.
In a statement, Phalatse was adamant that she would not be resigning because of the forces who want to destabilise the City of Johannesburg.
“I will not be resigning, and I along with the 10 members of the Mayoral Committee intend on completing our electoral term in office so that we can build this beautiful city.
There are nefarious actors working to urgently convene a meeting of council to dissolve the multi-party government and subsequently elect what can best be described as a corrupt cabal that will masquerade as a government.
Their only focus will be to empty the City’s coffers, stop service delivery and collapse the City.”
