An Eastern Cape inmate who shared images of himself with an altered prison uniform while behind bars is reportedly under investigation.
A cellphone that an inmate allegedly used to post his photograph on social media has been seized, according to the department of correctional services (DCS), which announced the seizure on Tuesday.
The incarcerated inmate is reportedly at St Albans Correctional facility, at Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.

In prisons, Nxumalo claimed, smartphones are classified as contraband, and possessing one is a crime.
“The identified inmate is incarcerated at St Albans correctional facility in the Eastern Cape and he has been moved to a special care unit for the purposes of an investigation and will be formally charged,”
“The said inmate will also face other charges for tailoring [his] offender uniform as this is against DCS policies. DCS is deeply incensed by this behaviour and there will be strong action and consequences,” said department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.
