The man was allegedly attempting to steal copper cables from a mini-substation which resulted in an explosion that engulfed him in flames.
While the exact location of the video is unknown, social media users claim the incident occured in Witbank at approximately 17h00 on Tuesday, 27 September.
According to witnesses, there was a loud bang and the distinct smell of burning wires and smoke.
The alleged cable thief who was burnt beyond recognition, was later found walking away with bits of his burnt clothing stuck to his charred skin.
Community members were trying to coax the man into sitting down but he painfully continued walking away.
His skin was peeling off over most of his body, including his face, back, torso and legs.
