On Tuesday, members of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to demand better salaries and enough funding.
Workers in critical services, like law enforcement, are prohibited from striking by SA labour law, but the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) indicated its members would refrain from striking if directed to do so.
Members of Popcru have rejected the government’s offer of a 3% pay raise, stating that they prefer a 10% raise retroactive to April 2021.

Additionally, they are requesting an increase in their clothing and risk allowances as well as the R250,000 death benefit given to the families of fallen police officers.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Richard Mamabolo, who is the POPCRU spokesperson about the worker’s demands.
