The Gauteng Health Department has said 1 322 matric rage revellers have been identified, with 984 of them testing positive for COVID-19. Kwara Kekana, Spokesperson for the Gauteng MEC for Health, spoke to Kaya Breakfast to give an update.
According to Kekana, of the over 900 learners who’ve tested positive for COVID-19, they have had 32 contacts testing positive.
Contact tracing is important because anyone who has contact with someone who’s tested positive for COVID-19, is at risk of getting the virus. This especially applies to people who have intimate contact like family members who share the same home.
The Gauteng Health Department has so far managed to test 1050 learners. 99 learners have been uncooperative with the ongoing contact tracing process.
Last week, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reported that the 15 – 19 age group is presenting up an unprecedented trend with high infections being detected among them.
