The 16th edition of the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) recently took place and one of the biggest winners on the evening was legendary South African actress Connie Chiume.
The 70-year-old received a lifetime achievement award.
In her acceptance speech, Connie said she was “overwhelmed with joy.”
In honour of this great feat, the cast of Gomora planned a mini celebration for the legend.
Walking to set, Connie Chiume received a hero’s welcome as everyone sang for her and celebrated her win. She could not hold back her tears.
Siphesihle Ndaba, affectionately known as Mazet said a few words to Connie.
“You know how much I love you. From the first day, you treated me like your own child. I wish that I could open up my heart and show you how warm you have made the space feel and how appreciative you made me feel.”
Watch the cast of Gomora celebrate Connie Chiume.
Connie Chiume will be making her way to the US in October to accept her second-lifetime achievement award in under 2 months.
