The 16th edition of the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) took place on September 03, 2022.
The awards show was hosted virtually by Mpho Popps, Khutso Theledi, and Ryle De Morny.
Legendary South African actress Connie Chiume, 70, received a lifetime achievement award on the night.
In her acceptance speech, Connie said she was “overwhelmed with joy.”
Speaking about her 45 years in the industry, the actress says it’s her “passion” that has kept her going.
She continued: “I think the way God has wired me, there is no way I could have left. I take every job that I do as a new thing.
“I’m so happy that NFV South African acknowledges and recognises my work.”
Furthermore, Connie Chiume adds that this has inspired her “to work even harder.”
She hopes the award will inspire many to follow in her footsteps.
Manaka Ranaka won Best Actress in a TV Soap for her role in Generations The legacy, while Thabo Malema won Actor in a TV Soap for his role in e.tv Scandal.
Nthati Moshesh won Best Actress in a Telenovela for Isono while Bonko Khoza won Best Actor in a Telenovela for The Wife.
