Joining 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka is comedienne Tumi Morake.
In 2018 Tumi made headlines after resigning from Jacaranda FM following the backlash she received over comments she made about apartheid.
Speaking about what she went through 5 years ago, Morake says it was a traumatic experience.
“A lot of people actually don’t know what happened.”
Steve Hofmeyer came up and in the middle of the conversation, a listener said why must black people always bring up apartheid.
Tumi explained to the listener that there was no retribution and that “we never felt like our pain was acknowledged. So you are always going to bring it up.”
This angered some of the listeners who sent her death threats.
“Did I not get it? I was threatened, and gigs were cancelled for my on-air partner. I was threatened with gang rape.”
Tumi shares that since the ordeal, she struggled to write material until recently.
