Argentina’s vice-president has survived an attempted assassination after a gun failed fire.
According to the President of Argentina, the firearm used in the attempted murder of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner malfunctioned outside her residence.
The incident happened on Thursday night when the assassin who attempted to kill the prominent politician and former president was promptly subdued by her security personnel.
“A man pointed a firearm at her head and pulled the trigger,” the president said in a national broadcast following the incident.
He said the firearm was loaded with five bullets but “didn’t fire even though the trigger was pulled.”

The pistol did not fire when the man attempted to fire it, according to President Alberto Fernández.
A video shared on social media following the incident shows shocking scenes as Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner being escorted to safety.
