There were 6424 people were killed in South Africa between April and June 2022.
The quarterly crime statistics, which reflect offences reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) during the first quarter of the 2022–2023 fiscal year, were presented by Minister of Police General Bheki Cele.

According to SAPS, the stats shows drastic decreases in Sexual Offences. There was a drop of over 800 cases of sex crimes that are far more often, perpetrated on women.

A total of 12 283 cases of rape and murder were prioritized as per requests and responded to from August 2021 to July 2022.
There was an increase in murder cases, compared to the same period last year.
SAPS says there are three main causes of murders: 1)Arguments and misunderstandings. 2) Retaliation and revenge murders as well as 3) Vigilantism.
