Global hitmaker, Shakira is facing 8-years in prison for tax fraud after the singer rejected a plea deal.
The Colombian singer has opted for the tax fraud case against her to go to trial.
Shakira rejected the $24 million settlement agreement which was offered to her.
According to reports, Spanish prosecutors say the ‘Waka Waka’ songstress could face both a lengthy prison term and hefty fine if she’s convicted.
The singer is accused of failing to to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros ($15 million) in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
Shakira who moved to Spain after falling in love with Spanish footballer, Gerard Piqué, is facing six charges. The pair met at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Shakira and Piqué went their separate ways after 11-years, following cheating allegations on his part.
In May, Shakira appealed the tax fraud charges but the Spanish courts turned down her request.
A date for the trial has yet to be set.
