American singer Kelis has called out Beyoncé for using one of her songs as a sample without her permission.
In her newest album, Renaissance, American musician Beyoncé has featured a sample from a Kelis track.
The track is titled “Energy” and is sampled from Kelis’ song called “Get Along with You”.
Written and produced by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, “Get Along With You” was released as a part of Kelis’ 1999 album called Kaleidoscope.
The Milkshake singer took to social media to express her grievances about the sampled song.
In a series of comments made from Kelis’ cooking account on Instagram, @bountyandfull, the singer shared her thoughts on her track “Get Along with You” showing up as a sample on “Energy.”
“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding”, reads a comment from Kelis.
Kelis continued by stating that she heard about the news the same way everyone else did.
“I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled”, Kelis shared.
One fan commented, “Awesome…that’s a collab the world really needs”, to which Kelis replied, “It’s not a collab it’s theft”.
In Instagram videos shared by Kelis, the artist notes that Beyoncé “should have at least reached out” to her about sampling her song.
“It’s not about me being jealous. Jealous of someone using my song? That’s the dumbest, most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard,” she said. “It has to do with the fact that, from one artist to another, you should have the decency and common sense and the courtesy to call”, Kelis expressed.
