On Wednesday, a gunfight on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal claimed the lives of five people.
A group of eight males arrived in two vehicles early in the morning at a mall in Empangeni, held up the security guard, and then stormed into a store.
Before leaving the area, they stole clothing and other goods.

Two more were injured and sent to the hospital, and five members of the gang were killed. An eighth individual was subsequently apprehended by police as he fled the scene.
The security company and police personnel who responded to a need for help were praised by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
“This incident demonstrates the need for police to work very closely with other force multipliers, including security companies and the business sector,” he said.
