Public confidence in the ANC continues to drop, as President Cyril Ramaphosa’s future hangs in the balance.
Kaya Drive with Sizwe Dhlomo asked listeners if there was anything the ruling party could do to win back votes.
The resounding response from listeners was that the party has failed its people, and there was nothing the ANC could do to convince them otherwise.
This puts the ANC in a precarious position for the upcoming 2024 national elections.
If the party’s 2021 municipal election results are anything to go by, the ANC is steadily losing public confidence.
Gwede Mantashe, National Chairperson of the ANC, said the party has a lot of work to do, to win back the favour of its people.
“We were below 50% in 2021, if we do not do something dramatic, we are going to be in trouble. Delegates must be told repeatedly to internalise and begin to work on it.”

Amongst the party’s many failings, the power crisis, corruption, rising cost of living, rampant crime and high unemployment rate, continue to plague South Africans.
This year also saw party leader, Cyril Ramaphosa put under the microscope over a potential cover-up of a robbery at his Phala Phala farm.
Concealing the theft of $4 million, Ramaphosa’s reign has hit a hurdle which his reputation may not recover from.
Listen to the conversation on Kaya Drive:
Ramaphosa’s credibility as President hangs in the balance
There are growing calls for Ramaphosa to answer questions regarding the Phala Phala scandal. This week, the Public Protector expressed that the President will be subpoenaed over the scandal.
The robbery at Phala Phala was brought to light after former spyboss, Arthur Fraser opened criminal charges against Ramaphosa.
If charged, Ramaphosa may be forced to step down as party leader, and could be recalled as President.
Both the DA and the EFF are putting pressure on Ramaphosa to step aside as leader of the ANC, however, the President said he will allow due process to take place.
