R Kelly is being reportedly held on suicide watch for ‘his own safety’
Following his conviction last week, R Kelly claimed he was put on suicide watch as a kind of punishment.
However, federal authorities have disputed this assertion.
On Friday, July 1, the federal detention center in Brooklyn where the disgraced R&B artist is being housed, put him on suicide watch.

He was given a 3-year prison term last week for racketeering and sex trafficking.
Kelly was found guilty of nine different sex offences last year and was put on suicide watch after his conviction in September 2021.
In Chicago, Kelly is awaiting a new trial where he is charged with 13 additional sex offenses, including creating child pornography.
He is accused of conspiring to hide evidence and threaten victims. To all counts, Kelly has entered a not guilty plea.
Melanie Speight, an assistant US attorney, observed in a filing that Kelly’s ““current life circumstances undoubtedly bring emotional distress”.
