In June this year, South African football coach Pitso Mosimane shocked football fans when he announced that he was partying ways with Egyptian giants Al Ahly after leading them to two Champions League titles.
Speaking to Kaya Biz with Gugulethu Mfuphi, Mosiame says it was a very “difficult decision” to make.
“I just felt it was the time to leave, I had renewed the contract last year and had thought I would stay longer, but every good thing comes to an end.
“I felt that I must just give a hand over to the next coach and just let them take the team to a higher level,” he explains.
The coach, who’ll be taking a break from coaching at the highest level will shift his focus elsewhere.
He says it’s normal for elite coaches to take a break.
“Sometimes you move to another continent or probably you step back and take a rest. Big coaches like Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola have done that.
“Zidane has won three champions leagues and he is not coaching. So I’m happy to take a break, and I’m happy to wake up at 11 am and I’m happy that I am not accountable to anybody at this point in time,” he said.
He will get back to professional coaching when he feels “a need to get back.”
