A Gauteng speedster was arrested for clocking 215km/hr on the N1 South over the weekend.
The Mercedes Benz owner said he was trying to avoid hijackers which is why he was driving at such a reckless speed.
Traffic officials were having none of it however, and the 41-year old man was arrested. He will face charges of reckless and negligent driving as well as an additional charge of exceeding the legal speed limit.
The Gauteng speedster was travelling at 90km over the 120km/hr maximum limit on a highway.
Police arrested the driver along with 6 other drivers who exceeded the speed limit this weekend. The arrests come during operations that were conducted over the weekend, where 1500 suspects were arrested.
Driving a G63, the driver tried to persuade officers that he was only going that fast because his life was in danger and he was trying to escape his hijackers.
“A 41-year-ol was caught speeding in a Silver Mercedes Benz G63 at a 215km/h, on a prescribed maximum speed limit of 120km/h, on the N1 South. The speedster was detained at Sinoville police station.”
