Limpopo police are investigating the deaths of two members of a church congregation who drowned during a baptism.
Both men were part of a group partaking in a baptism event at the Masetheko dam in Limpopo over the weekend.
Four of the group members were waiting to be baptised when they fell into the dam. While one managed to swim to safety, another woman was rescued, but unfortunately the two men drowned.
The bodies of both men were retrieved by police, and the men were identified as 21-year old Elvis Ramakgaphola, and Michael Rampa (29).
This wasn’t the first drowning that occured during a baptism, as a pastor and a fellow congregant drowned two weeks ago.
In a similar incident in Mogol River, Lephalale, the pastor and the church member drowned after they fell into the river.
Limpopo police have warned community members about the dangers of stagnant waters and rivers.
