Police have confirmed that a toddler’s dismembered body was found dumped in a sports bag on the N1 highway.
The boy’s mutilated body was found near the Shell Ultra City in Westenburg.
Police say the sports bag had a label which read, “Sport Ruxinga” on the side.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the child was still wearing a blue and white striped tracksuit and black shoes.
A pink baby blanket, towel and blue and white wrap was also found in the bag.
The grisly discovery was made last week and police say the toddler was possibly two or three years old.
“Police were alerted about an abandoned bag along the N1 in Westenburg on Thursday, 19 May. At around 07h50 police made the discovery of a toddler’s dismembered body.
Preliminary police investigations show that child was chopped with an unknown object before being dumped in the sports bag. The child had a bandage wrapped around his left leg and his left arm was already in a state of decomposition.”
Police are calling on the public for any information which can help identify the child and find his parents.
