Recovering from childhood traumas as an adult is not easy, especially when the wounds are reopened whenever you encounter a past trigger.
From igoggo to castor oil, Feel Good listeners shared how they dreaded weekends at home.
Mame Soke recalled how every Saturday morning it was time for ‘freshen.’
“Iyooh, my dad stirring every Saturday morning, we’d just know it’s time. I hate laxatives to this day, I don’t even use if on my kids.”
Castor oil was one of the most common traumas it seems, as a majority of listeners shared with Andy Maqondwana how they still remember the taste of it.
Some parents gave their children strong black tea, and oranges to help the oil work faster.
The popular cleansing for children “back in the day” was supposed to rid kids of worms and keep them healthy.
Doctors used to advise parents that they should do “an opening” or detox for children at least once a month.
If there were some children who received this every weekend, askies! That can’t have been a pleasant childhood experience.
There are parents who still use castor oil to clean their children and many put the oil in yoghurt, to mask the awful taste.

Another scary traumatic childhood tale involved “Pinky-Pinky” also known as the Boogieman. The story of a scary man or woman that is lurking close-by waiting for naughty children to get out of hand.
It worked back then, so did a good old-fashioned beating.
A few listeners also shared how brushing their hair was traumatic for them because their moms or grans would literally tug the brush through.
Let’s not forget when a child refused to come inside when called.
“Ya, hey when it was bath time and you didn’t want to listen and you just ran away when you were called. Then you played until late, the beating you caught when you eventually decide to go home! Yoh, I will never forget!”
As if that’s not enough, Kaya 959 listeners previously shared some of the foods that traumatised them in childhood.
