It may look like snow, but the thick white blanket has been dismissed as a Randfontein hailstorm.
The weird weather pattern that hit the West Rand gold mining town on Tuesday, 17 May has sparked queries of snowfall in the province.
While the South African Weather Services have warned that a low-pressure system will bring cold and wet weather to parts of the country, reports of snow were squashed.

Snow is however expected over parts of the eastern and western cape, as well as the Drakensberg this week.
Pictures shared on social media on Tuesday paint a different picture however, as the thick, fluffy, white covering that fell in Randfontein does not look like hail at all.
Residents and motorists have shared some images and videos of the roads after the Randfontein hailstorm.
