Western Cape police have confirmed that 6 people were killed in a mass shooting incident in Khayelitsha, Site C on Sunday, 8 May.
Cape Town’s organised crime unit detectives are investigating the case with murder dockets opened. It is suspected that rival gangs in the area were responsible for the shooting.
The rise in mass shooting incidents in the Western Cape is something police in the area are struggling to get under control.
The shooting on Sunday occurred at 20h00 with 5 men, believed to be in their 30s dying on the scene.
A sixth man was taken to hospital but unfortunately died from his gunshot wounds on arrival.
This is the fourth multiple shooting incident in Khayelitsha since March.
On 14 March five people were shot and kille in Endlovini and another six were killed in Enkanini on 20 March.
Then on 9 April, two more people were shot and killed and 3 were injured in Mandela Park.
Community members choose not to come forward to speak out about the crime in the area out of fear.
Due to the heavy gang presence, many choose to turn a blind eye to avoid being victims themselves.
