L’Oréal South Africa has initiated a voluntary recall of its Dark and Lovely Precise Diamond Straight and Shine Relaxers. The locally produced, affected batch carries the batch numbers 87UD00 and 87UD01.
Following incidents of hair breakage, hair loss and scalp irritation using the products, customers are urged to return the hair products immediately.
An imbalance of the active raw material, affects one batch only and the company says all other batches remain safe and available. The batch numbers can be found on the back of the jar as indicated in the images below.
Dark and Lovely says this is the first time problems relating to its relaxer products have emerged and no other products under the brand are affected.
“As a precautionary measure, production and marketing of these products have been stopped. The Dark and Lovely Precise Diamond Straight and Shine Relaxer 125ml tubs with the batch numbers 87UD00 and 87UD01 are being withdrawn from all affected retail point of sales.”
The company shared in a statement
Consumers who have purchased products with either of these batch numbers must not use the product and must return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
At L’Oréal South Africa, we are committed to producing products that are safe and effective. The safety of our consumers and the quality of our products is our top priority.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) said they were aware of 22 complaints from consumers reporting adverse side effects from use of the products.
