Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux Mohlauli will spend the weekend behind bars after his bail application this Friday was rejected.
Lux was expected to appear at the Roodepoort Magistrates Court earlier today to apply for bail but his application was postponed to Monday, 28 March.
This was due to the state declaring they required more time to gather evidence and opted to use the 48-hour grace period to decide if more charges needed to be added.
Police will have until Monday to verify witness statements and investigate whether charges of malicious damage to property, theft and assault are valid.
Lux’s legal representative, Advocate Ike Khumalo said the charges against Operation Dudula’s leader is laughable.
Speaking to media, he said they have enough evidence to clear his client of all charges.

Last week, Lux and his group of activists searched 59-year old Victor Ramerafe’s home in Dobsonville, Soweto.
Acting on what Lux told Sizwe was a tip-off that Ramerafe was a drug dealer, the pensioner’s home was ransacked but no drugs were found.

Ntate Victor Ramerafe said Nhlanhla Lux and Operation Dudula carried out the search without a search warrant.
The EFF set out to help Ramerafe open a case of burglary, vandalism, theft and assault against Operation Dudula members, including leader Nhlanhla Lux himself.
Under pressure by the EFF to arrest Lux within 7-days, the Operation Dudula leader was arrested on Thursday afternoon, shortly after his interview on Kaya Drive with Sizwe Dhlomo.
Speaking to Sizwe Dhlomo, Lux did not seem too concerned about the charges against him, sharing that his team act on intelligence which is a collaborative effort with SAPS.
“Even if I got arrested now, after my interview here because the EFF know I’m at Kaya, it’s ok. If I have to spend a weekend behind bars, it’s ok,” Lux said.
He said he could not answer as to why police didn’t have search warrants to carry out the search in Dobsonville. According to Lux, neither he nor members of his team entered Ramerafe’s home, and he maintained that it was SAPS officials who carried out the search.
