Formula 1 has decided to cancel its contract with the Russian Grand Prix and will not host races there, for the foreseeable future.
September’s race in the resort city of Sochi had already been cancelled following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
But now the sport’s commercial arm has decided there will not be a Grand Prix in Vladimir Putin’s home town of St Petersburg, where it was due to move in 2023.
Russian drivers have been banned from participating in motorsports in the UK.

The governing body for world motor sport, FIA, also gave the green light to Russian driver, Nikita Mazepin to continue competing in F1, but under a neutral FIA flag.
FIA held an emergency meeting about Russia yesterday on the 1st of March, to plot the way forward, where the East European country is concerned.
Meanwhile, the Haas F1 team removed the branding of its title partner, Uralkali, for the final day of the pre-season test in Barcelona last week.
The Russian fertiliser company is part-owned by oligarch Dmitry Mazepin.
His son Nikita is the grid’s sole Russian driver, racing for team Haas.
